A carefully researched depiction of the native people who lived in Mapleton before contact with Europeans, this painting shows the interest he had in local history. He collected or borrowed extremely rare photographs from earlier eras, and read exhaustively. He was also the co-authos of a book entitled “Mapleton History” and completed many hours of research for the book that also shaped his understanding of the appearance of their clothing and shelter.
